KangenStyle

About a month ago I started drinking Kangen Water.  I was introduced to it by a friend.  I was skeptical at first.  I mean water is just water right!?  Wrong! Within the first few days I noticed a dramatic change in my voice.  Now I'm the type of person that drink a lot of water!  I was going through a 24 pack or Arrowhead a day! But this Kangen water seems to hydrate my vocals chords really fast.  Not only that but it has made my voice feel silky smooth.  The water also tastes really nice.  There is no bitter after taste.  That's because the water is Alkaline.  Pretty much all other waters are acidic.  And our bodies need to be Alkaline not acidic in order to function well and to last longer.  I always say that I don't endorse anything unless I truly believe it to be a great product.  And I highly  recommend kangen Water! And not just for singers!  It has major health benefits for everyone.  If you don't believe me try it out for yourself!  I'm getting the machine that makes the water so if your in the LA area I would be more than welcome to give you some so you can try it.  Of course I won't charge.  I just want you to see and feel the benefits for yourself.  If you're interested just send me an e-mail byron@byrongore.com and for more info check out the videos on this website http://www.ukkangenwater.co.uk/downloads Oh and I even tried out the tests on the water myself.  Like I said I was skeptical.  And it's all true! :D  I've also been bursting with energy since drinking it and thinking more clearly.  This water is good for so many things!!!  I just wanted to share that with you all :)

An All To Familiar Tale

Sitting down on an old chair
In an old room
In and old house
Playing an old tune
On an old guitar

Looking out of an old Window
In an old frame
Onto an old town
In an old country
With my old eyes

Hearing the Old bells
Ring an old song
From an an old church
With an old name
With my old ears

Watching an old movie
On an old station
On an old TV
In an old dressing gown

Making a cup of tea
In an old kitchen
on an old stove
In an old tea pot
With my old hands

laying down on an old floor
In an old room
In an old house
With my old bones
Bleeding old blood

laying down in an old church
In an old box
With an old tune
With my old friends
And their old words

Taking a Break

I'm taking a break from performing live shows due to my ongoing back injury.

Playing shows (even small shows) is becoming more and more difficult for me because of the intense back pain I'm suffering from.  I'm still waiting on a double disc replacement and fusion.  The pain I suffer is pretty much crippling at times and getting worse by the day.  I'm going to try and continue to run my monthly songwriters showcase in Hollywood but that's going to be the extent of it until I have had my surgery.  It's just not fun anymore when I'm in so much pain.

I will of course keep you all updated and I will continue to post on here and on my social networks.
Thanks for being understanding.

Off Vocal Rest

Day 12

I played my first show last night since blowing out my voice pretty badly with a chest infection.

The show went great and I feel my voice was pretty strong!  For the past week I have been using Jeanie Deva's Vocal-Warm Up CD to rehabilitate my voice.  It really has helped me a lot! I've been doing the warm up for 30 mins before each rehearsal and before last night's show.  I then do them again as a voice cool down after performing. It's working wonders on my vocals, If you are a singer or even a public speaker, I HIGHLY recommend Jeannie's CD!  I don't often endorse anyone unless I truly like what they have to offer.  But Jeanie has been a life saver with her vocal techniques.  I plan on getting more of her CD's to further improve my vocals in anyway I can.

You can purchase the Vocal Warm-Up CD from Jeannie Deva's Official Website. It will improve your voice!

I'm never again going to do a rehearsal or show without warming up my voice first.  My vocal chords are my instrument and I need to take better care of them.  And so should you!

See you at my next show and don't forget to subscribe to my blog and share it with your friends.

On Vocal Rest

So I've been put on vocal rest.  I'm not even supposed to talk. This is harder than it sounds ( no pun intended )

DAY 02

About 2 months ago I somehow managed to catch a chest infection/cold, along with a pretty nasty cough. I got it right after my show at Howl At The Moon.  I suppose it's possible that I caught it from the microphone or from someone in the club.  I then foolishly performed a show and had a rather long band rehearsal before I had fully healed.  This ended up in me having to cancel my performance at the ENUF event.  I hate having to cancel shows.  But my voice was sounding so damn awful I was almost unable to sing at all. This really worried me as I've heard a lot about damaged vocal chords. I immediately sent out an e-mail to some of my most trusted and experienced singer/vocal coaches. Low and behold I got replies from all of them with lots of great suggestions and tips. Brenda, Kira and Jeannie you are all stars in my eyes! Also Helen Austin for the great tips she gave me via Facebook :)   I took every bit of advice from each of them, I have also gone ahead and purchased a copy of Jeannie Devas Vocal Warm Up CD to help rehabilitate my vocal chords.  I have just over a week to get them in shape before my next show.  I've put myself on complete vocal rest until the my next show at Howl At The Moon on July 11th. By Complete I mean no talking at all let alone singing.  This is proving to be extremely hard! Not to mention frustrating! I'm sitting here typing this while I drink some homemade Ginger Tea, Something Jeannie Deva suggested I do to promote healing. I've had slight vocal strain in the past but nothing as bad as this. I just finished the Ginger Tea. It was pretty good! I peeled and sliced up some raw ginger and boiled it to make the tea.  I added some artificial sweetener to get rid of the edge.  I'm trying to lay off the sugar as it's bad for the voice.

All in all I'm feeling very confident that my voice will be back in good health by the end of the week.  I will keep a blog update on my progress.  I've been on voice rest for almost 2 days, I've been supping on Bach, Rescue Pastilles, (Thanks Brenda)  drinking Ginger Tea and Organic Throat Coat Tea.  I also have some Natural Licorice which is good for the throat.  Oh and lots and lots of water!

Here are some links to my amazing friends who have been such a great help :)

Brenda Lee Eager
Kira Alvarez
Helen Austin

And thanks to Johnnie Ferro for calling to make sure I was OK and also giving me some helpful advice :)

Johnnie Ferro

From now on I'm gonna take better care of my vocal chords.  They're so delicate.  Check this video out to see for yourself.

The Annoyance Of Pain

As some of you may know I suffered a back injury last year.  Since then the pain has been getting much worse & even becomes disabling.  I've seen so many different doctors it's hard to keep count on how many exactly. I've had so may x-rays and MRI scans that I probably glow in the dark,  not to mention all the painful nerve tests that involve long needles and electric current. I spend most of my weeks in Doctors offices waiting around.  It's very annoying!  But despite all of this I am still trying to keep up with my live performances and keep the songwriter showcase that I run in Hollywood with Deedee O'Malley going.  The last showcase was a tough one for me as I was in so much pain.  I try my best not to show it when I'm up on stage but sometimes it gets better of me.  Unfortunately during the last showcase it became so painful that I was unable to perform well and unable to perform the end song to the show.   I've overcome worse in the past when my lung decided to collapse and die on me.  So I'm sure I will find a way out of this. in fact I'm positive I will! But for now I'm gonna keep trying to take it easy.  I've canceled my trip to the UK as there is no chance in Hell my back would allow me to sit on plain for 12 hours.  Let alone walk around the UK itself. But if all goes well I hope to at least get my back fixed so I can visit before the year is up. I just wanted to give you all a heads up to why I don't attend many of my friends shows and events anymore and why my shows have become less frequent. So for now I just need your understanding and support.

Cheers for now :)
